Bill Roof '55

Bill Roof, Class of 1955, was an outstanding multi-sport athlete at Poland High School, excelling in both basketball and track & field. A two-year basketball letterman, Bill graduated as Poland's third all-time leading scorer with 665 career points. He earned All Tri-County League honors as a senior after averaging 19.8 points per game and helped lead the Bulldogs to Tri-County Championships during both his junior and senior seasons.

In track & field, Bill was one of the school's top discus throwers. He placed third in the discus at the 1955 Class AA State Meet with a top throw of 146 feet, 10½ inches, which ranked as the third-best throw in school history at the time. He also captured the County Discus Championship as a senior.

Bill's scoring ability on the basketball court and his success in the discus earned him induction into the Poland Hall of Fame.
