Bill Simington '93

Bill Simington, Class of 1933, was a standout athlete at Poland High School, excelling in track and basketball, while also making lasting contributions to the community through his dedication to youth athletics.

In track, Bill set school records in the 880-yard run and the long jump. He was both a Mahoning County and District Champion in the 880-yard run and long jump, and finished second in the state meet in the long jump during his senior year. A three-year letterman, Bill continued his success at Ohio University, where he established the school's long jump record in 1935.

In basketball, Bill earned two varsity letters, contributing to Poland's athletic success during his high school career.

Beyond his athletic accomplishments, Bill devoted many years to community service. He served as President of the Poland Booster Club (1958–1959), helped lead the Baird Mitchell Stadium track and field renovation project (1977–1980), and served as Manager of the Poland Pony League for 10 years, leaving a lasting impact on the Poland community and its athletic programs.
