Ed Ciszewski (1973)
Ed Ciszewski was an outstanding track and cross-country athlete at Poland High School, earning three varsity letters in both sports while becoming one of the school's most accomplished distance runners.
In track, Ed set school records in the 880-yard run, one-mile run, and two-mile relay. He finished fourth in the 1971 Class AA State Meet in the mile and was a two-time state meet qualifier. He won the Tri-State Classic in the mile (1972) and the 880-yard run (1973) and established records at Baird Mitchell Stadium in the 880, mile, and mile relay. During Poland's 1972 Tri-County League Championship season, Ed captured league titles in both the 880 and mile. In 1971, he won the Tri-County League 880, the Mahoning County 880, and the Sectional mile championship, helping Poland win both the Tri-County League and Sectional team championships. He also set Ward Invitational, Mahoning, and Tri-County League records in the 880. As a senior, he won the Mahoning County, Mahoning Valley Conference, Canfield Invitational, and District championships in the 880, helping Poland claim the 1972 Class AA Sectional and Mahoning County team titles. Ed was the team's leading point scorer all three years.
In cross country, Ed was a three-year letterman who helped Poland finish 10th at the 1971 Class AA State Meet. Individually, he placed third at the District Meet and finished runner-up at both the Boardman Invitational and the Sectional Championships, contributing significantly to the success of Poland's cross-country program.
