Eric Spiegel '76

Eric Spiegel, Class of 1976, was a standout four-sport athlete for the Poland Bulldogs, excelling in basketball, football, baseball, and track & field. In baseball, he was the starting pitcher on a Bulldogs team that finished as the Ohio regional runner-up under Coach Mel Klingler. That season, Spiegel earned Honorable Mention All-Northeast Ohio honors and was selected First Team All-Mahoning Valley Conference.

On the football field, Spiegel was a two-year letter winner at offensive tackle and earned Second Team All-Mahoning Valley Conference honors in 1975, helping the Bulldogs capture the MVC Championship under Coach Dave Pavlansky. In basketball, he served as team captain, earned two varsity letters, and received both All-MVC and All-Northeast Ohio recognition. In track & field, he lettered in the sport, placed third in the district in the shot put, and recorded the second-longest shot put in Poland High School history at the time.

Following graduation, Spiegel was recruited by several Big Ten programs before choosing Harvard University, where he earned two varsity football letters as an offensive tackle and also played two seasons on the Harvard baseball team.
