Jim Bennett (1936)
Jim Bennett was a standout three-sport athlete at Poland High School, excelling in basketball, track, and baseball. In basketball, he earned All-County honors as both a junior and senior, set the school record for points scored in a single game (27) and the single-season scoring record (197 points), and graduated as the school's all-time leading scorer. He continued his basketball career at Cornell University, where he was a First Team All-Ivy League selection for three years and earned Second Team All-Eastern Intercollegiate honors for two years.
In track, Bennett competed in the one-mile run, finishing third in the county and fourth at the district meet during his senior year.
In baseball, he was a letterman on Poland's county championship team during his senior season.
Following his athletic career, Jim Bennett was inducted into the Youngstown Curbstone Coaches Hall of Fame.
