Jack Holt '49
Jack Holt, Class of 1949, excelled in track & field and basketball at Poland High School. He competed in both sports during 1947, 1948, and 1949. In track, Jack was a member of the 1947 State Championship Team as a high jumper. That same year, the team also captured the County, Ohio Wesleyan Relay, and Mentor Relay Championships.
In basketball, Jack was a varsity player in 1948 and 1949. During his senior year, he was selected to the Mahoning County All-Star Team and finished as Poland's leading scorer, with a season-high game of 20 points.
Jack continued his basketball career at the College of Wooster in Ohio, where he served as team captain in 1952 and 1953 and earned All-Conference honors. He graduated as the third-leading scorer in Wooster basketball history and was inducted into the Wooster Hall of Fame in 1978.
After his athletic career, Jack retired as President of Home Savings and Loan Company, where he worked for 39 years. He has also been an active community leader, serving the Poland Presbyterian Church, the Poland Cemetery Association, and volunteering with the United Way for more than 40 years.
