Jim Williams '49

Jim Williams, Class of 1949, earned four varsity letters in football and track and two varsity letters in basketball at Poland High School. He served as captain of the 1948 football team, which won the county championship. In track, Jim placed 5th in the pole vault in 1948 and 2nd in the pole vault in 1949. His 1948 track team won the Ohio Wesleyan Relays and the Mentor Relays, and the team also captured the County Championship for three consecutive years.

After graduating, Jim attended the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania, where he continued to play football and compete in track. Following college, he joined the U.S. Army, coached the Corps of Engineers track team, and received the Certificate of Accomplishment from the Secretary of the Army. Jim later served as president of the National Safety Equipment Distributors and was recognized in Who's Who in American Safety.
