John Zaksek 1985

John Zaksek, who graduated in 1985 and was a three-year letterman in baseball, set nine school records, five career and four season records. He was the all-time leader in home runs (21), RBI's (90), stolen bases (29) and extra base hits (49). His single season records include doubles (13), home runs (15), extra bases (28) and RBI's (58). As a sophomore, John hit .325 with 3 home runs and 15 RBI's as Poland reached the State Semi-Finals. As a senior John hit .521 with a record 15 home runs and 15 RBI's in 27 games as Poland was a Regional Semi-Finalist. His career batting average was .407. John was voted 1st Team All-MVVC. He played collegiately at the University of Cincinnati and professionally with the Chicago White Sox organization for four years. His honors include Rookie of the Year in 1986, All-Metro Conference in 1987, Midwest League All-Star in 1990 and top 10 in hitting in 1990.

John was also a three-year letterman in football, where he set a school record with 14 touchdowns as a senior. He was once again honored as 1st Team All-MVVC.
