Mike Simington

Mike Simington is recognized for his accomplishments as both a Poland High School athlete and coach. He graduated in 1966 and participated in junior high basketball, varsity football, and varsity track & field.

In football, Mike was a two-year varsity letter winner and finished his senior season as the team's leading rusher with 829 yards on 160 carries while scoring 8 touchdowns. He earned First Team All–Tri-County honors as a senior.

In track & field, Mike was a two-year letter winner, competing in the shot put, discus, sprints, and sprint relays. He was also a member of Poland's first Tri-County League Championship team.

After high school, Mike attended Miami University (Ohio) on a full football scholarship, where he played linebacker and earned a freshman varsity letter. In 1968, he transferred to Mount Union College, where he played fullback for two seasons and was nominated for the Street & Smith's All-American Team during his junior year. Although he was injured during his senior season, he graduated and returned to Poland to teach English and coach.

During his 27-year coaching career at Poland, Mike coached football, track & field, and cross country, serving as both a head coach and assistant coach. He was part of 21 championship teams, including 13 conference championships, 5 district championships, 1 regional championship, and 1 state championship.
