Philip Chuey '40
Philip Chuey, a member of the Class of 1940, was a standout three-sport athlete at Poland High School, excelling in basketball, track & field, and baseball.
In basketball, Philip earned All Mahoning County honors and served as team captain during his senior year. He was a two-year letterman and helped lead Poland to an outstanding 28–12 record, capturing the 1939 Mahoning County Championship and the Sectional Class B Championship.
In track & field, Philip qualified for the State Meet in discus. His performances in the shot put and discus helped Poland win the 1939 and 1940 Mahoning County Championships, the Poland Invitational, and the District Class B Championships. He also finished as a two-time Mahoning County runner-up in the discus.
In baseball, Philip was a two-year letterman and played first base, completing an outstanding athletic career as one of Poland High School's accomplished multi-sport athletes.
