Dr. Robert Zorn
Dr. Robert L. Zorn was employed by The Poland Schools for 41 years between 1961-2012, during which time he served as a sixth grade teacher, basketball coach, K-6 Elementary Principal, and then Superintendent. He was Superintendent of Poland Schools for 36 years from 1976-2012, including being named Ohio PTA’s Superintendent of the Year in 1990. He received Hall of Fame recognition in 2003 from the Poland Community Baseball Association for his support of baseball in the community. In 2012, Dr. Zorn received the 12th Man Award for his generosity and selfless support of Poland Schools Athletics in Football. Just some of his accomplishments during his time as Superintendent include:
• Built new football field on Poland Seminary High School campus
• Added lights for night football at Poland Seminary High School Stadium
• Converted Poland Seminary’s traditional high school grades of 10-12 to a full four-year high school with grades 9-12
• Added all-weather track at the Poland Seminary High School Stadium
• Built soccer practice fields behind the high school
• Built new baseball fields with spectator seating behind the high school
• Built new Field House with locker rooms onto the high school
• Built new Athletic Offices at the high school
• Replaced grass playing surface with artificial turf at the high school stadium
• Built current stadium seating at the high school stadium
• Added Boys and Girls Soccer Programs
• Added Softball Program
• Added Baseball and Softball fields at Poland North Elementary School
Ohio High School Athletic Association State Championships that were won during Dr. Zorn’s tenure as Superintendent:
• Football (1999)
• Boys Track and Field (2000)
• Girls Golf (2008)
• Softball (2011)
Dr. Zorn was also the author of numerous publications during his time as Superintendent including, “Triumph and Tradition: A History of the Poland Schools”.
