Steffen Majer '83

Steffen Majer, Class of 1983, was a three-sport letter winner at Poland High School, earning varsity letters in baseball (1981–1983), basketball (1982–1983), and football (1983). Baseball was his true passion, highlighted by pitching a no-hitter against Campbell in 1982. He was also named WKBN Student Athlete of the Week, competed in the Ohio State Tournament in Columbus, and helped lead Poland's 1983 State Semifinalist baseball team.

Following high school, Steffen accepted a baseball scholarship to the University of Miami. Two years later, he was a member of the 1985 NCAA National Championship team that captured the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, earning the opportunity to compete in the World Tournament in Taiwan.

In 1988, Steffen signed with the St. Louis Cardinals organization and spent five seasons playing in the club's minor league farm system. Injuries ultimately ended his professional baseball career in 1992, bringing his Major League aspirations to a close.

After baseball, Steffen earned a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing from the University of Miami and later completed an Associate of Arts degree at MDCC–Jackson Medical Campus, earning EMT and Paramedic certifications. He also graduated from the Broward Fire Academy (Class 169) and has served as a Firefighter for the State of Florida.
