Sean Wardle

Sean Wardle was an outstanding three-sport athlete at Poland High School, earning four varsity letters in football, three in basketball, and four in baseball.

In football, Sean was a two-year varsity award winner and was selected All-Conference (MAC) during his senior season. He set the school record for career punt return yards (301) and led the conference in interceptions, punt return average, and punt returns as a senior. He also helped lead Poland to a Regional Championship.

In basketball, Sean earned his varsity letter during his senior year, contributing to another successful athletic career.

In baseball, Sean was a three-year varsity letter winner and earned All-Conference honors as both a junior and senior. He led the team with a .384 batting average and in home runs during his senior season. He played a key role in Poland's District Championship as a junior and Sectional Championship as a senior. A National Honor Society member, Sean was also selected to the G-State All-Star Team and recognized as one of the top 75 players in the Midwest.

After high school, Sean continued his baseball career at Youngstown State University and later The University of Akron. During his senior season at Akron, he ranked 14th nationally in NCAA Division I in strikeouts per nine innings, earned All-Mid-American Conference honors, and was named the University of Akron Pitcher of the Year. He became one of only 13 Akron players to sign a professional baseball contract when he signed with the Milwaukee Brewers as a free agent in 2000.
