Tony Archibald '59
Tony Archibald, Class of 1959, was a standout in basketball and track & field at Poland High School. A three-year basketball letterman, an injury caused him to miss most of his junior season, yet he still graduated as the school's third all-time leading scorer (now fifth). His 148 points as a freshman remained a school record, and he scored a career-high 38 points as a senior. Tony finished with 204 points as a sophomore, 14 as a junior, and 438 as a senior, averaging 23.1 points per game during his senior season—one of the best averages in Poland High School history. He went on to compete in basketball at Mount Union College.
In track & field, Tony set school records in the high jump (5'9") and shot put (52'7"). He qualified for the state meet in the shot put and won the county championship in that event.
